How to Look Your Best in Photos | Boston Photographer

Stepping in front of the camera can be a daunting experience, even for those of us who make it our profession to help others look and feel their best. In my career as a hair and makeup artist with over 15 years of experience, I've worked tirelessly to ensure that countless clients radiate confidence and authenticity in their photos.

"But there came a moment when I realized that it was time to extend that same level of care and attention to myself. It happened at the Portrait Masters Conference I attended last month. Surrounded by fellow professional photographers, I knew I couldn't stay behind the scenes any longer. I had to have my own personal branding photoshoot and step in front of the lens! Rigel Jackson Photography was the one to capture my essence and vision during this transformative experience. We did a mix of portrait and personal branding photography, ensuring that every image truly represented who I am.

I knew the photoshoot would be bathed in natural daylight. Unlike studio light photo sessions that may demand heavier makeup application, natural light allowed for a more delicate touch, celebrating the beauty of authenticity.

In today's world, where visual storytelling and personal branding are more crucial than ever, it's essential to know how to present yourself authentically. So, join me in my own journey and confidence-building through my very own photoshoot. You'll discover how, even as a professional in the beauty industry, I learned to see myself in a new light and how these insights can elevate your own photographic experience.

  • Tips for Hair:

Preparation: Ensure your hair is clean and well-groomed before the photoshoot. ( having dirty hair for an event is a myth) A fresh blowout with tame flyaways and soft curling your hair (away from the face) will give you a modern look.

  • Tips for Makeup:

Natural Base: If your photoshoot involves natural light, go for a makeup base that matches your skin tone as closely as possible. Natural light can be less forgiving of heavy makeup. Emphasize your eyes with mascara and natural-toned eyeshadow. False lashes, lash extensions, or a lash lift can help open up your eyes,

  • Wardrobe Tips:

Choose outfits that align with your brand and personal style. Solid colors often work well, but don't be afraid to add a pop of color or patterns if they resonate with your image.

Ensure your outfits fit well and make you feel confident. Ill-fitting clothing can be distracting in photos.

Knowing how to present yourself authentically in photos is a valuable skill. By following these hair, makeup, and wardrobe tips, I hope you can enhance your confidence and radiate authenticity, whether it's for a professional session or your everyday online presence. Embrace your unique self and let your inner radiance shine!
